.....Afghan Surgeons Perform Life-Saving Surgery To Remove Part-Formed Skull
Asree Gul (left) is one of twins and her sister was born healthy. It is thought that her extra head was the result of a third baby who did not develop properly in the womb
A baby girl with an extra head has undergone surgery to remove her second skull. Doctors in Afghanistan were stunned when Asree Gul was born with the deformity in July.
She has a healthy twin sister, but medics believe a third baby failed to develop properly in the womb, and fused with Asree's foetus. Surgeons operated on her last week, painstakingly separating vital nerves and blood vessels that were connected to the extra skull. She was discharged on Wednesday [September 25] after docs hailed the operation a success.
