Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that ex-boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, probed him and his late wife, Stella, during his days as the president of the country.
He stated this after the former EFCC boss presented a paper titled, “Illicit Financial Flow and Governance of Natural Resources,” at the 3rd Tana High Level Forum on Security in Africa in Badir Dar, Ethiopia at the weekend.
Admitting that Ribadu created more enemies for him, Obasanjo said, he was not afraid of his enemies, rather “it is them that fear me.”
The Otta farmer also revealed that the former EFCC boss was almost killed when he was poisoned in the course of his duty.
He said the incident was a serious case that was “a matter of life and death.” He told the gathering how a serving Minister in his administration, who was his senior in secondary school, was found wanting by the EFCC and “there was no issue of senior again.”
The former president added that for leadership to function effectively, relevant laws are required for proper execution.
