Before he became the governor, late Dr. ‘Segun Agagu was the aviation
minister under Baba Obasanjo. Unfortunately and disappointedly, that
sector became a death trap, a nightmarish adventure for sojourners
(travelers) with little or nothing done by late Dr. Agagu to revamp the
ailing sector. But we all were witness to what happened to the late
governor’s pocket-FAT! I remember senate Ad Hoc Committee inviting him
for a fraud-related probe as a minister of aviation. That
notwithstanding his invitation on March 5, 2009 by Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 25Bn spent on OSOPADEC as a
governor.
Ain’t we learning any lesson here? That his corpse
had to travel to the great beyond with several other lives, with a
modicum of those who may be innocent. If nobody but at least the cabin
crew who were only working for their own quotidian survival. Two things
are possible here-first, it may be a case of nemesis, the law of karma
which now caught up with other innocent souls. Secondly, it is NOT also
impossible that he might have been involved in some occult covenants in
his pursuit of his political ascendancy, thus, the shedding of blood to
appease the vampires.
More pertinently, I think this hazard is a
reminiscent of past experience. Is there anybody who remembers one time
minister of works who hailed from Ilorin, Kwara state, late Abdulkarim
Adisa? I remember as a minister of works, he could have influenced
government, with all his office paraphernalia to fix the popular
Ilorin/Ibadan road considering its pivotal vantage between the North and
South West, yet he did nothing! We are not also unmindful of the fact
that he (Abdulkarim Adisa) died on the same road.
I am however
not oblivious of the recent road mishap that claimed the life of our
FIRST LADY, Dame Patience Jonathan’s foster mother, “Mama Sisi” on the
East West road which has hitherto suffered neglect. The issue of life
and death can be metaphorical and corruption has a way of fighting its
way back when it’s least expected. Here’s a clarion call on our leaders
to rather than fix their individual pockets, they should FIX Nigeria,
and by so doing, they must have fixed their families, associates and
what have you.
One can only think former minister of works
from Lagos, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe is reading this, I learnt the road to
his house in Ikorodu, Lagos is full of pot holes. What is more amusing
in all of this is something that is somewhat paradoxical. Ondo state
governor form 1999 to 2003 under Alliance for Democracy (AD), late
Adefarati buried his "predecessor", Ajasin while late Agagu himself
buried former governor Adefarati and now that incumbent governor 'Segun
Mimiko is doing late Agagu's obsequies, one can only pray the incoming
governor will not also do final funeral rites of the incumbent. What did
you say? God forbid, right? I also pray so. I sincerely think and hope
we can learn, that is if at all WE DO LEARN!
