Where Are Naija Sings Winners?

If the organisers of Naija Sings reality show decided to rest the show after three years, it probably wasn’t a bad decision since none of the three winners are of any relevance in the music industry at the moment.

Oh yes, the very first winner, a young lad simply known as Jon Oga, dazzled the viewers of the show back then; little wonder he beat the other contestants and smiled home with the  big prize.

The next news about the reality show winner was that he had gone to the US to study.

Anyway, Oga tried a tiny bit to redeem his image as a reality show winner. It is on record that he released a single, Gbedu, under Storm Records and followed it up with another single, Tonight. He even went as far as performing in a music concert, Felabration, in 2009.

That was the much Oga could do, he eventually faded out of the music scene.

Next was Casey Edema. Looking very much like an entertainer especially with his dreadlocks, most people thought Edema would join the raving artistes as soon as he became the winner of the second edition of the programme.

Well, he tried. He was a part of most of the concerts Globacom, the headline sponsors of the reality show, had in 2010, the year he won.

Thereafter, Edema towed the line of his predecessor- he faded into oblivion but not before he made sure he painted the city of Lagos red, with the brand new car that was a part of his winnings at the show.

Abuja-based Christian Doherty might not have been everybody’s favourite in the show in 2011 but he came, saw and went home with the whopping $100, 000 and a brand new Rav Four SUV.

Doherty just collected his winnings, went back to the nation’s capital and has been hibernating ever since, nothing about music or entertainment.
