A heartless woman who operates a roadside bukateria, popularly called ‘Mama Put’, is now in police net after she was arrested for brutalizing her 10-year-old maid and in the process, cutting off one of the fingers of the little girl on allegation that she stole a piece of meat from a pot of soup.
The
woman identified as Mama Jennifer, a mother of four kids, is said to run the
restaurant around Akuose New Layout, Ibuso/Asaba axis of Delta State, while the
poor girl’s name is given as Ndozi.
Residents
of the area were in total shock when they heard the piercing screams of the
girl and when they rushed to the place, they found her in a pool of her blood
and on enquiry, it was realised that her madam had chopped off her finger while
beating her. The concerned neighbours rushed the girl to the hospital while
some reported the case to the police and Mama Jennifer was arrested later that
day.
The
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed
the sordid act of the woman, disclosed that the suspect is currently helping
the police at the state CID with more information on what led to the incident.
“Upon
interrogation, she admitted to the inhuman treatment meted out on the maid,
adding that she was provoked when it was discovered that the maid stole from
the pieces of meat in the Nsala soup leaving her with no option than to
chop-off her finger with the knife she was holding.
The
victim was taken to a private hospital where she is currently receiving
treatment.”
The
police PPRO also noted that it was not Mama Jennifer alone that beat up the
girl but two other young men participated in the attack and they have also been
arrested and are being detained while investigation continues.
