Real
Madrid president Florentino Perez, has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson wanted
Carlo Ancelotti to replace him at Manchester United last summer.
Ferguson
stepped down at the end of last season and was replaced by David Moyes, who
endured a horrendous season with the Red Devils and was eventually sacked in
April.
Perez
has now claimed that Moyes was not the first choice to replace his fellow Scot.
“Ferguson called him [Ancelotti] to be his successor but he told him he had
already promised to come here with us,” the Madrid supremo stated.
Ancelotti,
who previously coached Chelsea where he won the Premier League and the FA Cup
with Chelsea, says he is not ready to quit at the Bernabeu yet, but would love
to manage Italy in future.
“Coaching
the your country’s national side is always a goal,” he told reporters.
“But
I still want to be on the (training) field every day; I very much enjoy the
daily relationship with the team.
“When I am no longer having fun … I’ll call the
Italian Football Federation (FIGC). When (Cesare) Prandelli’s contract expires (in 2016).
