The police on Wednesday (May 14)
arraigned an applicant, Kunle Opadeyi, at an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court in
Karu, for allegedly stealing N1m at a wedding reception.
The accused person was arraigned on two
counts of criminal conspiracy and theft.
Peter alleged that while the event was going on, the accused stole the sum from the money donated by invited guests to the couple. He said during investigation, the accused confessed to stealing only N200,000.
He added that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97(2) and 287 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he faces two years in prison or with fine or both.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, but told the court that he stole only N200,000.
Chief Magistrate Hadiza Shagari admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Shagari adjourned the case until June
11, for further hearing.
