Few weeks ago, veteran Actress, Clarion Chukwurah accused the Actors’ Guild President (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima of being an ex-convict, thus not fit to run the AGN.
Justifying why Ibinabo wasn’t fit to head the AGN, Clarion said “No convicted person can stand for an election in any post. Ibinabo was convicted for manslaughter and she was given a jail sentence which she served. There is a court injunction stopping Ibinabo from parading herself as the AGN president. This is the copy of the judgment. I have it. Manslaughter has no option of fine. Her sentence was reduced from seven years to five years and we all know she went to jail. The judgment reads in part. There is proof that she drove recklessly and caused the death of Dr. Sura Giwa contrary to the road traffic laws of Lagos State. She was drunk. How could this person be the face of AGN?” She asked.
Ibinabo Fiberesima has however responded to the veteran Actress’ accusation.
In her response, she said, “yes, I went to jail for 93 days. I am not denying it, but I was convicted for a traffic offence. Even the Nigerian constitution states that it is not criminal or fraudulent, so I can hold public offices. I didn’t go out of my way to kill someone. It was an accident and could have been me or anybody else. People have had accidents after me. What is painful is that these people are bringing up the pain and sadness in this case because of their own selfish reasons. Do you think they care about the family and the torture they went through back then. They don’t even know the pain the family will go through now that this has come up again.” she told NET today.
“I am not an ex-convict because I came out on bail to appeal and I am appealing because the judgment was wrong. Anyway, I have my own issue. That is between me and the court. I am appealing my conviction.” She added.
