Oni Never Won Election In Ekiti – Fayose

Ekiti State governorship candidate, Ayo Fayose, has said former Governor Segun Oni never won any election in the state.

Fayose, who is contesting for the governorship seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, said this through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi.

He said Oni’s emergence as governor in 2007 was fraudulent. He added that even Oni’s appointment as the Vice-Chairman, South-West PDP was also fraudulent.

Fayose, who served as governor between 2003 and 2006, said Oni defected to the All Progressives Congress because he was used to the undemocratic style of the APC.
He said the PDP would not lose sleep over Oni’s defection and maintained that he would win the June 21 elections and shame all his opponents.

He said, “Segun Oni has never won any election in his life, whether primary or general election. He believes in imposition because he is not popular.

In 2007, he came third in the PDP governorship primary but former President Olusegun Obasanjo and two other leaders in Ekiti used their might to give him the ticket.

“In that primary, Yinka Akerele came first while Prof. Segun Ojo came second. Even in 2012, during the zonal congress of the PDP in Osogbo, Osun State, he was imposed again as the national vice chairman, South-West. All other aspirants were asked to step down for him. He believes in imposition, godfathers because he cannot win on his own.

“Because he did not win the primary, but was imposed, nemesis caught up with him. That was why he was removed from office. He is not relevant in Ekiti politics.”

However, Oni described Fayose’s statement as unbecoming of a man he once helped to win elections.

He said, “When Fayose won in 2003, we made him win. He did not come to campaign in Ifaki, which has two wards. We did not allow him to come here to campaign. We did not accept party money. I bankrolled all that we did in Ifaki including the money we gave to party agents and we delivered the two wards.

“After I had been governor and out of office, we delivered the House of Assembly seat to the PDP. After Fayose left office, he has never won a councillorship seat in any party.”
