The lawmaker representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dakuku Adol Peterside has recounted the ordeal of Rivers people in the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Hon. Peterside made the revelation while registering at unit 5, Ward 3 in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) at Opobo Town last Friday.
“At the time we agitated for democracy, we did not subscribe to a repressive government; we did not subscribe to any government that will take our natural resources; we did not subscribe to corruption; we did not subscribe to oppression, intimidation and lawlessness. But that is our lot under the leadership of the present Federal Government in Nigeria,” Dakuku stated.
Hon. Peterside said that the present deluge of Rivers people into the APC is driven by the need to protect their natural resources which are being unjustly taken away by the Federal Government and given to other states.
“Today, our people cannot enjoy the fundamental freedoms as guaranteed in the constitution; freedom of association; the right to what is ours; the right to free movement and so on,” Peterside bemoaned.
“History is being made today; we are on a rescue mission; we want to ensure that our people do not continue to be under this type of governance that represents corruption; that represents intimidation; that represents the fact that people can take away that which belongs to us. That is why we have left the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the Federal lawmaker declared.
Continuing, Hon. Peterside stated: “We have opted for a platform that will galvanise our people’s aspirations; a platform that will secure our future and safeguard our commonwealth and ensure our fundamental freedoms; that is why we have wholeheartedly opted for the APC.”
It would be recalled that Hon Dakuku Peterside, a close ally of the governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, is one of the 37 members in the House of Representatives that defected from the PDP to the APC last year.
Former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, also registered at Ward 7, Opobo Town.
