The above question sure sounds ridiculous, yeah, it sure does!
Sometimes in 2010, I had cause †ơ͡ enter the NNPC towers in Abuja and
was amazed of the magnificent and gargantuan edifice put in place by the
military boiz, though vehemently castigated and roundly rejected. It's
unequivocal that the 4-towered skyscrapers is a building †ơ͡ behold, in
fact, a cynosure with its strategic location in the heart of the Central
Business District of Abuja. To think that such a "National Asset" will
today become the drainin' pipe through which our politicians loot our
common wealth 's ludicrously lugubrious. When 'Bàbá Òtà' held sway for
eight {8} good years, he appointed NO Minister for Petroleum and Natural
Resources, by this, he doubled as the substantive Minister as well as
the President. For those 8 years, he was not responsible †ơ͡ anyone and
in the like manner, successive personages ђα√e not deemed it fit †ơ͡
take probity seriously.
Very many of us may not like this, but
for me, in terms of asset management, considering nigeria's heterogenous
diversity, the 'kakhi boiz' {military regime} in my assessment 's been
better off. Be that as it may, my 'Cri De Coeur' today 's why these
group of peculators in the name of politician continue †ơ͡ usurp our
resources with brazen impunity! Central Bank's governor, Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi raised and alarm of the endemic corruption in the nation's
largest
repository of wealth but some persons were callin' for his head.
A whopping sum of about N1.75trillion 's missin' and somebody said it's
bad that the Apex Bank helmsman raised an alarm. Now, †ơ͡ cover their
dirty dealings, the touch-not-my-annointing Petroleum Minister, Diezani
Alison-Madueke, in connivance with her cronnies within the NNPC quickly
asserted the "missing" were actually spent on fuel subsidy and pipeline
repairs, hahaaaaa! Are we {Nigerians} all fools? How can you spend money
that was not appropriated for in the budget, much less †ơ͡ talk of an
amount that's half the country's total annual budget? Again, when has it
become NNPC's duty †ơ͡ pay for fuel subsidy? This readily brings †ơ͡
the mind the veracity of former Petroleum Minister, the Niger Delta man,
Prof. Tam David-West that there's really nothin' like 'Fuel Subsidy'
but a FACADE!
Like a comrade opined, it is only in a very
corrupt country as Nigeria that a whopping US$10.8billion is unaccounted
for, but the only thing the federal govt is doing is asking the
whistle-blower, Mallam Sanusi to quit his job as CBN Governor. Sanusi's
letter helped bring to public knowledge that NNPC squandered a whopping
US$10.8billion in a shambolic manner. If such huge amount of money is
missing in any civilized country, the culprits must have been arrested,
and remanded in jail till court trial. There are two things involved
here; first, the US$10.8billion was NEVER remitted †ơ͡ the Federation
Account, which by implications means that it did not even enter govt
coffers in the first place, much less, spendin' same. It is completely
different from trillions of Naira released annually by fed govt †ơ͡ pay
the pseudo ''fuel subsidy''. Secondly, like I mentioned earlier, the
NNPC claimed that they squandered the US$10.8billion without recourse
†ơ͡ National Assembly nor Presidency, when has the Corporation become an
authority on spendin'? So, the amount was neither included in Nigeria's
''fiscal earning'', nor in her ''Annual Budget'', who therefore gave
them such power?
But wait, what ''fuel subsidy'' is NNPC
claiming that it paid when it's in the public glare that fed govt
directly releases money for payment of ''Fuel Subsidy''? How on earth is
NNPC telling us that the money was used on subsidy, when on several
occasions, we were told that Mrs. Okonja Iweala (Finance Minister) is
responsible for releasing money to pay fuel subsidy. News reported it,
way back then that those who kidnapped her mother even mentioned that
they targeted Mrs. Okonja because of her delay and strictness in
releasing money to pay 'fuel subsidy''. So, who is fooling who? Are
these payments corruptly duplicated and looted? Are we in another round
of ''fuel subsidy scam''??? Do we have someone responsible for taking
account of money in this country? You can fool us once, but not everyone
can be hoodwinked all the time.
