The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Yobe, Alhaji Lawan Gana, on Monday that the party received 3,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) defectors in one month.
Gana told newsmen in Karasuwa that this followed PDP’s reconciliatory efforts across the state.
He said that the committees reconciled with aggrieved party members who left the party, adding that the committees also wooed new members from the ruling APC party to the PDP.
He explained that “the party constituted two reconciliatory committees to reconcile aggrieved members resident outside the state and those within Yobe and to scout for new members.
The chairman said the Dr Adamu Fika-led committee was expected to reconcile and scout for new members outside the state.
Gana’s committee would reconcile and get new members for the party within the state.
“We are happy that soon after the committees commenced work, supporters of other parties are now defecting to the PDP,’’ he said.
Gana said the 56 federal projects attracted by Dr Yerima Ngama, the Minister of state for Finance had increased the people’s support to the Federal Government.
“The establishment of a Federal University in Gashua and Federal School of Midwifery, among others, had provided economic growth and employment opportunities to the people,’’ he said.
He said the party was exploiting the failures of the ruling APC in the state to woo more support from the electorate ahead of the 2015 general election.
“The people of Yobe are yearning for speedy transformation in education, economy and health care delivery which the APC government has failed to provide,” he claimed.
He expressed satisfaction with the renewed support from elders, elites, youths and women to the party, adding: “this has rejuvenated our hope for the party in the state.
“PDP is on a new beginning in Yobe with an unprecedented support coming from across the state that will certainly effect change for development and prosperity.’’
