Captain of the Black Stars, Jordan Opoku, has said that his team will be facing a tough side, when they play Nigeria in the semi-final of the African Nations Championship on Wednesday, at the Free State Stadium.
The Ghanaians have not been prolific in front of goal – they have scored just four times in all their four games, but conceded just once.
On the other hand, the Super Eagles have scored 12 goals in four goals and their West African rivals would have to be in great form to stop them.
“I can compare the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana to that of our home clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak,” Opoku said.
“You have to be strong mentally to outdo your opponents when the rivalry gets heated.
“We have to raise our game to match Nigeria because they are the better side. If we lose concentration for just one moment we won’t win, we have to stay focused throughout the 90 minutes.
“On the pitch, we tell ourselves that if we don’t score, then we will not allow the other team to score. If we allow Nigeria to score first it is going to be a difficult game, so we have to switch on mentally and take our chances.”
