Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State, Martin Agbaso, has demanded a public apology from Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, for masterminding the impeachment of his brother and former Deputy Governor of the state, Jude Agbaso.
He also said he would soon expose all the “dirty deals” perpetrated by Okorocha’s administration to prove that the governor is corrupt.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday, Agbaso said he was glad that the erstwhile Deputy Governor was cleared by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Recall that the anti-graft agency had investigated Agbaso who was alleged to have received N458m bribe from a Lebanese construction company handling a job in Imo state.
The APGA chieftain said rather than accept that he had no case, Okorocha was accusing the anti-graft agency of incompetence and carrying out a shoddy investigation.
His words: “One would have expected that when this news broke, any reasonable leader would say ‘EFCC has done their investigation. Let Jude Agbaso go to court of law and reclaim his mandate. That was what we expected Okorocha to do, rather he turned around and started blaming EFCC"
“I told Imo people and all those who cared to listen at that time that no Agbaso son is capable of asking for a bribe for any reason whatsoever. We are going to take steps to address the perpetrators of this wicked action as well as restore his position as the Deputy Governor through every possible legal process”.
Agbaso, who denied any financial inducement from Okorocha before he surrendered his APGA mandate to him in 2011, also said he would soon open up on what transpired between him and the Governor before the 2011 election.
He claimed he had an agreement with Okorocha which the Governor reneged on and has decided to fight him using his brother (Jude) as the scapegoat.
“I have a catalogue of anomalies committed by the administration of Rochas Okorocha; all documented.”
“He is determined to destroy my name, mislead Nigerians and Imo people because he had an agreement with me that he will be governor for only four years and we both signed. It was witnessed by the national chairman of APGA. But instead of keeping to the agreement, he is trying to tarnish my image. It is not going to work,” Agbaso vowed.
