In what could be described as a comic relief, a man in his 70s, Wednesday morning gave his verdict of achievements of elected and military leaders of the nation’s commercial hub, Lagos State.
For several minutes, the pale-looking senior citizen, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol, analyzed past and present administrations of Lagos, telling anyone who cared to listen that he was old and knowledgeable enough to rate their performances.
The man, who sat beside a DailyPost reporter in a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle, which offered free Christmas Day ride from Agege to Ishaga, voiced rib-cracking statements, as he bared his mind on governance in Nigeria and recent occurrences in the polity.
According to him, the three individuals, that carried out laudable policies in the Lagos State are former civilian governor, Lateef Jakande, former military administrator, Buba Marwa, and incumbent Governor, Babatunde Fashola.
The man, who wore a blue T-Shirt and a black trousers with slippers, insisted that outside the three above-mentioned names, no other occupant of the highest seat in the State could claim to have deeply touched the lives of residents.
He recalled that himself, relatives and friends benefited from Jakande’s Housing policy, “which till today, stands out in the whole country”.
On Marwa, he said the Adamawa born retired officer, initiated the ‘Keke’ (tricycle) mode of transportation, which has since been embraced across other states in Nigeria.
He also lauded Marwa’s drive towards road construction and provision of transformers to nooks and crannies of the Centre of Excellence.
Commenting on Fashola, the man stated that the Governor has brought sanity to Lagos, observing that commuters, residents, visitors and government workers are now disciplined contrary to what obtained in the past.
He praised the Governor for what he called his “no nonsense” approach and stance on issues, calling on him to “try and run” for the highest seat in the land.
The drunk critic further spoke briefly on President Goodluck Jonathan.
He described him as a “good, easy-going man”, surrounded by “corrupted and wicked people who don’t say the truth”.
“I have not benefited from his regime because those people around him do not allow the money for all of us (Nigerians) get to us.
“If Goodluck wants to contest again, let him do well for the people, may be, we can support him again. Simple”
“But, but and but, like Obasanjo wrote, me too will write Goodluck a letter because I am not happy with him at all”, the man concluded with no utter of more words
