Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the game, as Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League, with a 1-0 win over Newcastle at Saint James Park.
The Gunners struggled to break down the Magpies, who before the game, had won 7 of their last 9 league games and the first half ended goalless. The only goal of the match arrrived in the 65th minute, when Giroud headed in Walcott’s free-kick, although the visitors had to cling on for all three points in the end.
Chelsea kept pace with the frontrunners, with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Martin Skrtel gave Brendan Rodgers’ men the lead early in the first half, before Hazard curled in an exquisite equaliser. Eto’o then converted Oscar’s cross to give the Blues the lead, which they never relinquished in the second half.
In other games, Totteham Hotspur hammered Stoke City 3-0, while Romelu Lukaku scored the winner for Everton, as they defeated Southampton 2-1.
