Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, has faulted the content of the letter written by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Al-Mustapha, who spoke on Sunday after his visit to the Emir of Kano, HRH, Ado Bayero, said the allegation that the president was training snipers to take on political opponents was unfounded.
“I found it utterly a laughable thing. I found the allegations most unfortunate, speculative and a depiction of somebody else’s imagination. I have responded to his letter and my response to his letter stands” he said.
Reacting to Obasanjo’s comment that, Al-Mustapha’s acquittal at the Court of Appeal in Lagos was questionable, the officer stated that “I have gone through many persecution that are well-scripted, with witnesses bought and induced over the years, with so many adjournments that are unwarranted, with so many cases being stopped, only for it to start all over again. I have appeared before many justices.
“The content of the judgment that was given at the Court of Appeal speaks for itself. These are well-known justices with backgrounds that are well known. Today, they have looked at the persecution (against me) and they know that it is contradictory to the provisions of the law in Nigeria and anywhere in the world”.
Commenting on the speculation that his family is disunited, Al-Mustapha described the news as untrue.
He particularly commended his younger brother, Alhaji Hadi Al Mustapha, for his sacrifices in the course of his trials and persecution, recalling that he was detained nine times because of their affinity.
